May 31, 2011 - Someone just gave me this album today, I'm in total bliss. By the way, not the CD, the classic vinyl record where the face opens up in the middle... \m/

Jun 1, 2011 - hands down my favorite possessed tune.

Jun 3, 2011 - Weep for lost glory. A truly amazing band. These guys were really becoming good players. And I also like this, but Eyes of Horror, their EP...after this and their final salvo, though more clean and polished had some blistering riffs on it. Another 2 albums and these guys would have been in league with the Big 4. They were THAT GOOD.

Jun 7, 2011 - I absolutley love the ending of this song. I have this record. Perfect in every way. Not quite 7 churches, but good.

Jul 2, 2011 - Jeff Becerra's vocal on this on remind me of accept's former singer! I own Seven Churches and it's the first time I hear something from their second album and I liked it pretty much, sounds to me like a Possessed version of Exodus, as the chorus riffs I think (maybe the verse's) sound to me like And Then There Were None (from Bonded By Blood). Anyway I think that if they had put some demoniac speed frantic passages like the ones they did on S.C., this record would have been as good as it.

Jul 20, 2011 - The only one I didn't care for was eyes of horror. The first two were top notch....

Jul 20, 2011 - I was researching "Ler" from Primus, and knew he had a death metal background. These guys were around during my youth, but I wasnt' much into the death scene. A little Venom, Slayer, Destruction, Celtic Frost, is what I remember most. This album a little more technical which sounds good to me, but the recording/mixing was a known disaster. Where are the drums! The snare is hidden behind the guitar. Still very cool for what its worth.

Jan 6, 2012 - Much agreed... BTG was far more refined in terms of direction and focus. But beyond the technical superiority of the album, it was vastly more tragic in sound. The whole album is brutal but at the same time painfully sorrowful. The end of this song in particular is just cripplingly depressing. I imagine Malefic of Xasthur fame was strongly influenced by this very composition...

Apr 5, 2012 - that logic is dumb"but beyond the gates focused on a more vile and really satanic yet melodic direction, therefore in a way its better" stop judging a genre as "better" its the musicians themselves that make it good.

May 19, 2012 - "Seven Churches" is 100% death metal, brother. They practically created the genre! Shit, the last song on the album is called "Death Metal"!!!
colorblindvids mowi:
May 19, 2012 - Nah man I gotta disagree. Death was using "Death Metal" to promote their demos and shows way back in 1983. I think Possessed was more of a black metal/thrash metal band on Seven Churches..and its not like I dislike them at all, hell, I own an ORIGINAL copy of the damn album on TAPE! Lol \m/
mikeonis mowi:
May 20, 2012 - Nice! Original cassettes are freakin cult! Ya, Possessed is one of those bands that are pretty hard to define, most likely cause they were one of the first! I do see the black metal connection, also thrash big time. The main reasons I would label them Death Metal is the vocals, riffing, lack of blast beats (cause at that time mainly grindcore bands were the only ones doing the blasts) and solos. But yeah I remember when Death was Mantas and I think one of their demos was called "Death Metal"
