Nov 11, 2010 - the nose doesnt continue to rise. they really dont need to compensate at all. The main reason they do this is for noise abatement. Lowering the engine power after takeoff actually causes more stress and pressure on the cylindrical base of the engine. Full power is the best way to go because it offers complete contant airflow and zero stress to the engine and wing.

Dec 26, 2010 - I enjoyed this pre-takeoff and takeoff clip. It gives people who never flew and are considering flying but are afraid a good view as to what goes on as you're seated in the aircraft and what happens. I flew years ago (even was a student pilot) and LOVE it!! Maybe I'll get to fly someday but it's a GREAT experience! Thanks for posting!

Jan 5, 2011 - No they don't. A320s are powered by either the CFM56 or the IAE V2500 (shown in this vid).

Jan 23, 2011 - What is that thing you are using to listen to the pilots speak!!!

BobWeaver112 mowi:

Jan 30, 2011 - Quite the opposite. The engines are throttled back to climb power to reduce stress on the engines, and because a standard climb rate doesn't require takeoff thrust. This is standard operating procedure and has nothing to do with noise abatement. Not sure what you mean by "complete constant airflow." Contrary to what you stated, a jet engine is under the most stress when it is at full power.

Jan 30, 2011 - Channel 9 is exclusive to United.

Jan 30, 2011 - It's not all about fuel costs. The CFM burns slightly less fuel in lower altitudes, produces slightly more thrust in climb, but has a slightly higher SFC in cruise. More important to an airline are maintenance costs, support from the manufacturer, integration costs, and costs of acquisition, among other things. Obviously your flight simulator model is flawed, as the IAE isn't twice as fuel efficient as the CFM in the real-world. Their fuel burns are largely similar.

JATO457 mowi:

Jan 30, 2011 - well, it isn't the best sim, but i also said that maintainance costs were lower for the IAE in jetBlue's case and that jetBlue is using a facility that specializes in IAE's

Mar 2, 2011 - OUTSTANDING!! Wingnut vids are always better with ATC audio. Well done.

Mar 12, 2011 - its amazing how fast the a320 gets to cruising altitude..thats a hell of an airplane..little crampy but..

Propilot23k mowi:

Mar 13, 2011 - I beleive it was for the better fuel effeciency. The CFMs Offer More Power tho!

May 21, 2011 - How did You Here ATC, I thought only United allows you to listen to the ATC?!

Aug 25, 2011 - yeah I saw that. It will give the plane a better 'range'. No more stops during the winter months 1/2 way while doing a cross country flight to W. coast for fuel.

Oct 16, 2011 - Why doesn't Jetblue get a channel where passengers can listen to the pilots and the air traffic controllers. United has channel 9 and I enjoy listening to it very much. Come on Jetblue. I would be much happier if you guys could add it to your line-up in flight.
