Aug 14, 2011 - I say if someone wants to vote they can regardless of their age, but they should be required to pass a test to prove they actually know some things about politics. There are too many morons who vote without knowing anything.
dachickenman mowi:
Aug 14, 2011 - I would agree about the fact that there are voters with a lack of knowledge, but I think there is a danger in having a voter test that is created and approved by the State. Could you imagine the questions that might be on there? Such as: Marijuana users should be: a) Jailed; b) fined; c) left alone. Can you guess which answer the government will say is wrong?

Aug 15, 2011 - Ever notice how " lol " looks like a stick man drowning?
HungryDingo mowi:
Aug 15, 2011 - Yeah, there is some potential for abuse such as that but if it left out opinions and stuck asking what candidates stances are on the issues it could be relatively fair. I wouldn't support something like this normally but there are just so many stupid, stupid people who have the dumbest opinions on things yet all you hear is everyone else saying "please go out and vote!". If you need encouraging from a celebrity to vote, you probably shouldn't vote at all.

Aug 15, 2011 - I got my permit at 14 years of age, and remember that it was the young people who were getting into horrific wrecks. Kids brains aren't mature enough to drive, for the most part. My school mates were the ones who were binge drinkers, too. I don't know adults who drank like that.

Aug 15, 2011 - That's exactly what I said before I read your comment. I said that they think it's simply cool to be a lib and they'd vote for whoever Jon Stewert told them to.

Aug 15, 2011 - My question is if a democracy can be redeemed at all in this matter. Will it not always result in a tyranny of the majority (or perhaps a well-funded and organized minority)?

Aug 16, 2011 - Age should be irrelevant for voting. I would let a 10 yr old vote if they could recite current issues, the candidates and what they each stand for. The requirements for voting should be: proof of citizenship, and an anti-moron test. If you had to prove you're not an idiot, Obama would NEVER have been elected.

Aug 19, 2011 - Whaa? They don't take a stance on age of consent? That's unfortunate. I hope they decide to eventually take a stance, though given Nadel's views on giving parents rights to raise youth without government interference, I'm not quite sure I would agree. It's the child's life, not the parents'.

Aug 20, 2011 - Yep, but how to draft a good anti-moron test? Ivy leage colleges are full of obama loving professors, and IQ test also dont measure intelligence. I personally know people who are great in math, I mean basic math not einstein stuff, the point is they would score more then me in IQ test, but they got a huge problem with rational thinking ... even sense of humor

Sep 15, 2011 - Juvenile crime has been on the decline since the early 90s. So has teen driving deaths. Kids don't need to be out late unless they have someone to be approed by their parents. Some of these cerfew laws are insane, but they get these punks that commit crimes off the streets. BTW car crashes is the #1 killer of teens. The number has declined in resent years and stricter laws to get license is one reason.

Oct 21, 2011 - Why should young people have to pay more I work all the time and over two hundred and fifty dollars is taken from me a week from my check. That's is absolute bullshit. Why should someone over 21 not be taxed as much. Lol that's not rigjt

Dec 28, 2011 - I will support this group even when I am old.
nightvidcole mowi:
Feb 5, 2012 - No, stricter laws are not one reason. This decline (I assume you are talking about the US?) has been paralleled in other age groups as well, which would not occur if your hypothesis was correct. Your post is an example of irrational anti-youth bias that pervades our society.
