Jan 19, 2012 - thats soo gay can you shut it off ?

bmwmpower04 mowi:

Jan 19, 2012 - As far as I know, you can't shut it off without unhooking your sound system. The "volume" increases and decreases based on your selection of the DCT shift modes. A writer for a car magazine actually exposed this junk feature when they realized how quiet the car was after unhooking the speakers/amplifier!

Feb 16, 2012 - but it still sounds like a TTV8 i dont here an V10-ish engine note but i still buy one

Apr 2, 2012 - So too was I, initially. But after reading reviews from those who have driven the car, it seems the artificial sound is not recognizable as being manufactured, or 'fake' as you will. Go read some threads for yourself, look at the reviews of those who have driven it. It seems to not disappoint.

bmwmpower04 mowi:

Apr 3, 2012 - I've been avidly following the developments/reviews of the F10M from the concept days. Trust me, I've understood this car to be an amazing performer and a dynamic piece of work. However, your argument stretches thin from your initial points...

bmwmpower04 mowi:

Apr 3, 2012 - (continued). My post brings to light the fact that BMW actually placed such a feature in their flagship M model. It doesn't matter to me, or most enthusiasts, that the sound cannot be "recognized" by some reviewers. It's the fact that BMW actually INSTALLED such a device on their car. It's a way to trick the driver into hearing a more pleasant engine note. You say "manufactured," I say "fake." In the end, what you're hearing is not the genuine V8TT sound.

graciousSenor mowi:

Apr 3, 2012 - You make a good point. It's sad to know such a revered brand as BMW introduced this feature. I'm guessing you're an E60 fan? Would you rather have this, or an E60 new? I'd take the F10 despite some of its less desirable features, like the ASD for example.

bmwmpower04 mowi:

Apr 4, 2012 - Well... after following the F10 for such a long time, I didn't think the E60 would be as attractive anymore (lack of comfort, no torque, interior, etc.). But, all it takes is one video of an E60's exhaust sound, and I'm back in love with it. The sheer sound of that V10 engine makes my spine tingle, and that's enough to throw me back into the E60's arms. The F10 is a completely different beast. It's BMW's real answer to the AMG/S lines... ultimate cruiser/supercar in one. For now, E60 > F10.

graciousSenor mowi:

Apr 4, 2012 - I admire that you esteem one car so much. There's a certain quality that I see when people are faithful to one car. It's nice. It's also neat that cars, even in the case of the E60 and F10, despite being the same model of car, have entirely different identities. The E60 came about before I got into cars, and not surprisingly, I don't have as much invested in that car, although I do usually prefer NA power.

graciousSenor mowi:

Apr 4, 2012 - Maybe look up the F10 with the Akrapovic exhaust. It may not amount to your beloved E60, but it will at the very least put a smile on your face.

bmwmpower04 mowi:

Apr 11, 2012 - Thank you. I also appreciate your opinion on these things. It's great to talk to fellow enthusiasts, no matter how new they are, about these current happenings.

May 3, 2012 - Who cares? First of all, the F10 is faster and far more efficient than the E46, and it sounds badass on the outside. BMW just did such an excellent job with insulation that you can't hear much of the engine sound in the cabin. The same problem was complained about for the E46. Now, BMW has done something about it, and decided to project the engine sound into the cabin via speakers. Sure, it's not totally natural, but who gives a fuck? Nothings gonna be old school anymore, get used to it.

bmwmpower04 mowi:

May 3, 2012 - I'll assume that you're mistakenly referring to the E60 as the E46. If you do indeed mean the E46, why the heck are you comparing a prev-gen M3 to the new M5? Also, it appears that plenty of true enthusiasts and M fans understand my disappointment in such a lousy system. BMW isn't "projecting the engine sound into the cabin," they're playing an audio clip of a completely different engine note. Designing an engine that sounds amazing and abides by standards is nothing "old school," buddy.

May 3, 2012 - My mistake I meant E60.
